This file contains information which is important, or is too new to have been incorporated into the users manual.
NOTE: THE INSTALLER ON THIS DISK MAY BE DIFFERENT THAN THE ONE SHOWN IN THE MANUAL
To install, double click on the "Install WACOM Tablet" ICON on THIS disk. Then press the return key.
NOTE: Quit all other applications when installing on System 6 under MultiFinder.
NOTE: Installation will automatically take place onto the active system disk (the top disk on the left of your screen).
Be sure to remove all old Wacom serial drivers (version 1.0Vxx). The installer will attempt to remind you, but there were too many driver names for the installer to remove old drivers automatically. New drivers (2.x.x) are automatically updated by the installer. Preference files are automatically updated when the preference file format changes.
You should be aware of the following limitations:
1) The PowerBook 160 (180 also?) only works in high speed (25 Mhz) mode.
2) On the early PowerBook 140 and 170 versions, the mouse was not properly grounded. If you have a problem on one of these units an Apple Service rep will make a minor modification to the PowerBook to make it work correctly. (Excerpted from an Apple Tech. Note)
3) If you attach more than one tablet to a PowerBook and you are using Connectix Powerbook Utilities, make sure you do not have “Only Reset ADB When Necessary” under “Instant Wake” checked. (They don't detect “necessary” correctly).
4) You may have compatibility problems with other graphics tablets. Several drivers for other tablets did not properly check to see if the attached tablet was their "own", they do not test to see if the ADB ID was the one assigned by Apple, they just attached their driver to any device at address 4. We were therefore forced to automatically remove other drivers from the system (ADBS resource 4).
5) The extension "Serial Port Arbitrator" which comes with ARA will crash if it loads before the WACOM driver. Move Serial Port Arbitrator from the Extensions Folder to your System Folder (or delete it - it doesn't do much anyway).
6) There have been reports that the control panel "Energy Saver" which comes with the Power Macintosh will crash if it loads before the WACOM driver. Add an "x" in front of the name "Energy Saver" to make it "xEnergy Saver" to make it load after the WACOM tablet driver.

We have not been able to get this card to work on 840 av machines and there are occasional
problems with ports not being identified as open. Otherwise this card works OK:

Electronic switches
Proper function was not obtained with the AXiON switch.
Software Compatibility:
This is not an extensive list! It is the software which was readily available at release time. All tablet aware programs should work. (However CAD packages will not work in multiple virtual tablet mode.)
The driver was tested with the following CAD packages:

Radius Rocket 33 - Note: With RocketShare the driver and application must be run on the motherboard processor. It may be posible to run the driver on a Rocket processor with serial port sharing software.
The following list of bugs are known to exist:
1) Printing a summary to a spooled printer (including the ImageWriter in non-draft mode) causes a crash in System 6
The following changes were made to the control panel and may not yet be in the user's manual:
1) If a serial tablet has never been installed and if the software does not detect an ADB tablet at start up, the WACOM software asks you which port your tablet is attached to. Follow the instructions on screen, once a serial tablet is found, the software will remember your system configuration and work properly.
2) ALL WACOM tablets should work with this driver.
3) A Puck settings pane has been added for ADB tablets. Older WACOM ARTZ ADB tablets are not guaranteed to work properly with the UC-420.
4) Multiple tablets (serial and ADB) can be attached at one time. Be aware that the order of tablets may change, depending on which one the system detects first. One of the tablets can be selected to provide pressure to a graphics application. Alternatively, all tablets can be combined into one virtual tablet so that graphics applications can get pressure data from all tablets. This does not yet work for CAD applications (you have to pick one preferred tablet - or the application may pick it for you).
5) Multimode was added. On a UD series tablet which supports multimode it is possible to disable coordinates from the puck to use it as a button box.
6) The UD tablet menu strip has changed to a scrolling list to allow for longer menu strips
7) CAD applications should work with all tablets. The only packages tested were MiniCAD+ MicroStation and AutoCAD. Select an ADB tablet with AutoCAD. We will test others as we receive them.
